I seem to get to see Stereolab once a decade. Actually that's a lie - I used to see them once a decade. I saw them twice - the first time their support was a young Polly Harvey, before her first album had been released (she blew us away). The second time, the support act were a very fine Field Music, just after their first album. Last time was just a few weeks ago, and it wasn't Stereolab but Laetitia solo and a beautiful thing it was. They feel like long lost cousins.

I realize there's nothing I can say that will change anybody's mind if that's their position based on this song's title. However, if you listen to the lyrics, they're actually making fun of people who use the word, not people with disabilities: The narrator is a bitter guy who didn't get invited to a fun party. But lesson learned on getting too casual with the term. It's not as if it's in my best interest anyway; as the above story attempts to illustrate, I've written a lot of better songs. It's amazing how silly ones like this, "(I Was an) Intern at Spin," and "Tim McCarver Must Die" seem to get the most attention.

It's nice having a website full of Egg to listen to while I write a little essay about restructuring Social Security. Now stop reading this, stop thinking about Virginia girls, listen to more Egg, and get writing.

I saw Skinny Puppy (with Nine Inch Nails) at the Academy in the spring of 1991. I remember it looking like a theater with no orchestra seats. No idea where it was. Great stage. People climbing up and diving into the pit the whole show. I wasn't in Jersey anymore.

But my first The Verve show was even better. 1995. Tried to scalp tickets outside of Irving Plaza. Thrown up against the wall by undercover police, then walked around the corner and handed free tickets by an officer. That night rocked.
