Farewell, darling Gibby (1919–2013). I’ve got you deep in the heart of me, so deep in my heart that you’re really a part of me.

Terry Reid, “Live Life” (original recording is on River, Atlantic Records, 1973)
Thunderegg headlines this Wednesday night at the storied Bottom of the Hill (1233 17th St., SF). The West Coast Egg will be laying down some exceptional rock in one of the best-sounding rooms in the city. We’ll be joined by On Telegraph and Jared Cohen & the Future Proof. Show starts at 8:30 and we’ll be on about 10:30 or 11. This is not to be missed.
Thanks to the Egg’s touring violinist, Ken Matsuda, here’s a sweet overview of our adventures around Germany last July. The song, “I Turn Automatic,” comes from the first few minutes of our first show, at the Station in Püttlingen, before a crowd of 450 Saarlanders. It’s not perfect. But there’s something about that moment, when we were nervous and just starting out, that’s harder to replicate than playing it perfectly anyway. Two-plus hours and something like 30 songs later, we got the standing O. What a beautiful night it was.
